Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and scale distributed object storage systems across geographically dispersed data centers.
- Own projects and deliverables from solution design through timely implementation and delivery.
- Build stakeholder buy-in for technical designs and provide feedback on colleagues’ designs, features, and projects.
- Drive technical standards and improve infrastructure tools for configuration management, provisioning, software deployment, logging, and monitoring.
- Participate in a weekend-inclusive on-call rotation and handle alerts and escalations to maintain service availability and functionality.
- Automate manual operations and improve storage platforms through repeated iteration.
- Support provisioning, data migration, backup and recovery, at-scale testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
Requirements
- Experience building, operating, and scaling distributed storage systems in private, public, or hybrid cloud environments.
- Ability to design, author, understand, and release code in Go, Java, Python, or Rust, with Go preferred.
- Strong understanding of Linux block, object, and file storage solutions, including LVM, XFS, ext4, S3, Ceph, Gluster, and NFS.
- Understanding of Linux internals, standard networking protocols, and distributed systems.
- Awareness of storage deployment best practices, including physical and virtual deployment models, change management, failure domains, and hardware lifecycle management.
- Hands-on experience managing large numbers of diverse systems with configuration management or software delivery platforms such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, and Spinnaker.
- Experience deploying, supporting, and monitoring services, platforms, and application stacks.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture, Kubernetes container orchestration, and relational and non-relational databases such as Cassandra, Postgres, and RocksDB.
