Responsibilities
- Define and drive architecture for Java-based platform services, distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven applications.
- Lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams, services, and business domains.
- Remain hands-on through prototyping, implementation, code reviews, and production troubleshooting.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, and Architecture leaders to develop scalable technical solutions.
- Guide cloud-native architectures, microservices, data flows, integrations, and shared platform capabilities.
- Improve system performance, availability, observability, security, and operational readiness.
- Establish engineering standards and reusable patterns for Java development, API design, testing, CI/CD, and production operations.
- Mentor Senior and Staff Engineers through architecture reviews and technical guidance.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building production SaaS applications, distributed systems, or enterprise software platforms.
- 6+ years of experience developing production backend services using Java.
- Experience leading architecture and delivery of initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams or product areas.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience leading architecture reviews and introducing technical standards or engineering practices adopted across multiple teams.
- Preferred experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, Kafka, or similar Java technologies.
- Preferred experience with cloud-native, microservices-based, or event-driven architectures.
- Preferred experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Preferred experience leading platform modernization, cloud migration, or large-scale re-architecture initiatives.
- Preferred experience improving reliability, observability, performance, or operational practices across production systems.
- Preferred experience integrating AI-enabled capabilities into production software or platform services.
- Preferred experience using GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT in engineering workflows.
