Base Salary

$176k - $277k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and advanced development for next-generation image and video coding using ML/AI methods.
  • Develop advanced computer vision algorithms and applied ML/AI techniques for media enhancement, understanding, analysis, compression, and storytelling experiences.
  • Design and implement video processing, encoding, and end-to-end streaming algorithms and software workflows for live and on-demand media.
  • Optimize video and multimedia platforms for velocity, scale, efficiency, quality, and performance.
  • Drive architectural innovation, significant IP generation, and contributions to media standards.
  • Represent Disney in technical discussions with AOM, academic research groups, conferences, MPEG, IETF, VQEG, and other standards bodies.
  • Act as a strategic technical domain expert and influence long-term technology and product development.
  • Collaborate globally with engineering resources in Zurich, Bangalore, the United States, and Beijing.
  • Work with senior leaders to drive major technical advancements.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field, with directly related industry experience in video codecs.
  • Deep expertise in video coding standards including AV1, AV2, AVC, HEVC, and VVC.
  • Strong algorithm background in traditional block-based and emerging neural-network-based video coding tools.
  • Strong experience applying deep learning to video enhancement, video understanding, video coding, and video analysis.
  • Proven track record of intellectual property generation and research or advanced development in video coding, media processing, video quality, computer vision, or computer graphics.
  • In-depth understanding of multimedia stacks, including video formats, encoders, decoders, video playback, players, multimedia frameworks, and video coding and processing methods.
  • Preferred knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
  • Preferred experience deploying and optimizing AI/ML models and frameworks, including latent-variable generative models and finite-precision optimization.
  • Applied knowledge of media metadata, processing, adaptive bitrate algorithms, and transport formats.
  • Knowledge of the gStreamer Media Framework.
  • Experience building web applications and dashboards for data visualization.
  • Experience working with Docker.
  • Experience with web service development, XML/JSON, release management tools, Git/GitHub, and highly scalable distributed applications.
