Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded software for microcontrollers with a focus on quality, performance, and reliability.
- Implement and optimize real-time operating systems, device drivers, and communication protocols.
- Debug and troubleshoot firmware issues, including complex problems across hardware and software interfaces.
- Integrate, build, and manage embedded software configuration.
- Create and maintain unit, regression, and pairwise test suites.
- Write software requirements, interface control documents, test plans, procedures, and other documentation.
- Review team members’ work products and collaborate with software, hardware, and system development engineers.
- Promote product quality and continuously improve embedded software practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of relevant software experience, including at least 3 years developing embedded software and 4 years developing software in C.
- Strong knowledge of ANSI C, data structures, memory management, asynchronous event-driven paradigms, and preemptive multitasking real-time operating systems.
- Knowledge of the OSI model, networking protocols, interfaces, hardware subsystems, and communication protocols including UART, SPI, and I2C.
- Ability to read component schematics and data sheets and benchmark algorithm performance on embedded systems.
- Strong communication, analytical, prioritization, ownership, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Preferred experience includes Python tooling, ARM M-series microcontrollers, Linux command-line interfaces, multithreading, Wireshark, embedded troubleshooting, Atlassian tools, continuous integration, Git or SVN, RF communications, bash, and make.
- US citizenship is required and the employee must be able to travel to meetings with geographically remote teams as needed.
