Base Salary
$120k - $155k/yr
Responsibilities
- Assess and resolve complex production incidents and rapidly restore critical systems.
- Support the stability, performance, and resiliency of Schwab’s Order Management System.
- Lead incident response activities and manage high-severity production incidents.
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, database, and vendor teams to improve production readiness and supportability.
- Develop automation, monitoring strategies, operational runbooks, escalation procedures, and permanent corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot Java-based distributed applications, SQL-backed enterprise systems, and Oracle databases.
- Improve observability and reduce recurring incidents through operational excellence initiatives.
- Support medium-to-high-risk production releases and change implementation planning.
- Mentor and coach fellow engineers and contribute to operational best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in Production Support, Site Reliability Engineering, Software Operations, or a related technology support role.
- Advanced experience troubleshooting Java-based distributed applications and SQL-backed enterprise systems.
- Experience with AppDynamics, Splunk, Grafana, InfluxDB, and Control-M.
- Strong Oracle Database knowledge, including SQL analysis, database troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Strong Linux administration experience, preferably in RHEL 7/8/9 environments.
- Experience with Python or Shell scripting for automation and operational efficiency.
- Experience leading incident response and managing high-severity production incidents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred experience improving availability, reliability, and mean time to resolution; developing monitoring strategies and runbooks; improving application supportability; supporting production releases; and mentoring SRE or production support teams.
- Knowledge of change management, risk management, security, and compliance practices in highly regulated environments.
Benefits
- This is an onsite role requiring work four days per week during night shifts from 2pm–10pm CST, with weekends as needed.
- Participation in a rotating on-call support model is required.
- The role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities in addition to the salary range.
