$200k - $288k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop new OpenTelemetry instrumentation for LLM/AI inference, Browser RUM, mobile, and other emerging domains.
- Design and implement OpenTelemetry Collector receivers, processors, exporters, and SDK instrumentation libraries.
- Contribute code, RFCs, semantic conventions, pull-request reviews, and SIG discussions within the OpenTelemetry community.
- Architect and own the Observe Agent, including its extension points, pipeline architecture, and release strategy.
- Translate customer instrumentation challenges into upstream contributions and product features with product and field engineering teams.
- Represent Snowflake and Observe in the OpenTelemetry community through conferences, maintainer relationships, and specification consensus-building.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful involvement in the OpenTelemetry ecosystem, including the Collector, SDKs, or instrumentation libraries.
- Strong Go programming skills and familiarity with at least one SDK language: Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or .NET.
- Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry Collector pipelines, SDK internals, context propagation, and semantic convention specification processes.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects with multi-vendor governance, including consensus-building, RFC authorship, and cross-organizational collaboration.
- Experience building cloud-native services and working with public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Passion for open-source software and community engagement in observability and telemetry.
- Bonus: OpenTelemetry SIG approver or maintainer status, LLM/AI observability instrumentation, Browser RUM or front-end performance instrumentation, or experience shipping an OpenTelemetry Collector distribution or Kubernetes operator.
