Responsibilities
- Build and extend large-scale simulations of global traffic placement across edge sites, peering links, and backbone paths.
- Validate simulation fidelity and performance against production behavior and live failure tests.
- Formulate and solve constrained capacity-planning problems involving compute, peering, caches, space, power, supply, latency, and failure constraints.
- Plan capacity for browsers, proxies, and caches used by Meta services and AI agents to access the internet.
- Build production forecasts of peak demand by region and product, quantify uncertainty, and track forecast accuracy.
- Model correlated and cascading failures, size capacity buffers, and present risk and cost trade-offs.
- Build continuously running agentic planning systems with drift detection, explanations, evaluations, and guardrails.
- Lead technical direction across teams, mentor engineers, represent capacity engineering in design reviews, and operate systems in production with on-call participation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of software development experience in industry, or a PhD with 4+ years of experience.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one of C++, Java, Go, or Rust.
- Experience building and operating production systems or large-scale data pipelines.
- Experience with large-scale simulation, mathematical optimization, or forecasting systems.
- Experience leading technical work spanning multiple teams.
- Preferred experience with distributed scenario sweeps, including Spark or Presto.
- Preferred experience with discrete-event, flow-level, or Monte Carlo simulation and production validation.
- Preferred experience applying LLM-based agents to production workflows, including evaluations.
- Preferred experience with mixed-integer or linear programming, optimization solvers, or large-scale heuristic search.
- Preferred experience with network capacity planning, traffic engineering, content delivery networks, load balancing, or forward proxies at scale.
- Preferred experience with reliability engineering, failure modeling, failure-domain analysis, disaster recovery, or chaos testing.
- Preferred experience with probabilistic, driver-based forecasting involving launches and events.
- Advanced degree in operations research, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
