Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and field-deploy custom ATAK plugins integrating Ditto synchronization capabilities into Android Team Awareness Kit.
- Architect and build performant Android applications and services for tactical devices operating in disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth environments.
- Own integration architecture across Ditto’s platform and the TAK ecosystem, including data contracts, API boundaries, and synchronization patterns.
- Rapidly diagnose and resolve application, integration, and data-flow issues on end-user devices in live operational environments.
- Feed real-world operational insights into the core product engineering team as technical findings and product requirements.
- Design, build, and ship software features end to end from architecture and implementation through deployment.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience building, shipping, and maintaining production applications.
- At least 2 years of technical experience developing Android applications with the Android SDK and Kotlin and/or Java.
- Prior ATAK plugin development experience or deep familiarity with the TAK ecosystem, including CoT messaging, TAK Server integration, and plugin architecture.
- Strong integration design skills covering API contracts, data synchronization patterns, and loosely coupled interoperable systems.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve application, integration, and data-flow issues in live operational environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for translating complex technical and user-workflow information into actionable requirements.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship is strictly required.
- Experience with CRDTs or local-first software architectures, cross-platform mobile development, tactical networking, SQLite or Realm, tactical-edge deployments, SOCOM, DoD, or federal customers is preferred.
- Backend or systems development experience with Go, Rust, or Python is preferred.
