Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly team goals while leading engineers through ambiguous, open-ended technical problems.
- Design, develop, and launch highly available distributed backend systems using Kotlin and Python.
- Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and partner engineering teams to evaluate constraints, risks, and tradeoffs.
- Identify and resolve project, process, technology, and business issues while shaping quarterly technical direction.
- Support system operations through metrics, escalation, on-call participation, and improvements to operational health.
- Improve code review and design standards, reduce toil, create playbooks, and advocate for engineering quality.
- Mentor engineers, support new hires and interns, provide feedback, and contribute to hiring.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Professional experience using languages such as Kotlin or Python.
- Experience developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to define technical plans and create elegant, simple, and extensible designs for significant features or system components.
- Ability to make substantial changes safely in a large codebase using effective tools and engineering practices.
- Strong ownership, growth mindset, and willingness to seek feedback.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
