Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product, Finance, Accounting, RevOps, and Engineering leadership on billing architecture and commercial flexibility across self-serve and enterprise motions.
  • Design billing primitives including usage events, billable metrics, products, rate cards, contracts, credits, subscriptions, overages, and invoice workflows.
  • Architect scalable usage metering that transforms raw product events into accurate billable quantities and supports pricing changes without repeated product rework.
  • Build and evolve an entitlement layer for programmable feature access, limits, credits, and plan controls.
  • Integrate CRM, CPQ, product, billing, ERP, and downstream reporting systems into coherent quote-to-cash flows.
  • Ensure billing systems provide idempotent event handling, reconciliation, reliable notifications, auditability, and clear observability.
  • Review billing architecture and code for correctness, scale, security, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot invoice discrepancies, usage drift, contract edge cases, entitlement bugs, migration failures, and cross-system data mismatches.
  • Lead initiatives such as usage-based billing foundations, packaging rationalization, billing developer experience improvements, and migration from brittle homegrown logic.
  • Mentor engineers on domain modeling, distributed systems, financial correctness, and software tied to revenue recognition.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of business-critical backend systems in production.
  • Deep experience architecting billing, payments, pricing, or quote-to-cash systems for a B2B SaaS company at meaningful scale.
  • Experience designing APIs and event-driven systems that ingest, validate, aggregate, and reconcile high-volume operational data.
  • Strong understanding of usage-based pricing, subscriptions, prepaid credits, commitments, overages, hybrid packaging, and enterprise commercial terms.
  • Experience working directly with Accounting, Finance, RevOps, and GTM systems where data quality, auditability, and timing matter.
  • Experience integrating with Salesforce, CPQ, NetSuite, payment platforms, and downstream finance or reporting tools.
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, object-oriented programming, relational databases, data modeling, transactional workflows, distributed systems, asynchronous processing, testing, logging, telemetry, production debugging, Git, and modern infrastructure tooling.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform and modern infrastructure tooling.
  • Bonus experience with Metronome, Stigg, PLG and self-serve systems, enterprise sales motions, audit logs, RBAC, webhooks, durable queues, or AI-assisted development tools.
  • Ability to model complex commercial domains, communicate architectural decisions clearly, mentor engineers, and lead ambiguous cross-functional initiatives.

Benefits

  • Stock equity in the form of RSUs.
  • Up to 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for employees and dependents, plus wellness benefits and healthcare concierge services.
  • 401(k), company-paid life and disability insurance, tax-advantaged spending accounts, and discounted voluntary offerings.
  • Paid parental leave after six months of employment, plus Kindbody fertility and family-building benefits and leave specialists.
  • Annual professional and personal development stipends and internal learning opportunities.
  • Flexible vacation policy and paid holidays.
  • Hybrid work model in the Bay Area: in-office Tuesday through Thursday, with flexible Mondays and Fridays.
