Responsibilities
- Build deeply integrated Android product experiences using Android platform capabilities.
- Develop with Android framework and system APIs, system services, lifecycle and background execution primitives, inter-process communication, permissions, notifications, and intents.
- Integrate audio, camera, sensors, connectivity, location, notifications, credentials, and other device signals into context-aware AI experiences.
- Build agentic mobile systems that help users complete multi-step tasks across applications, services, and device functionality.
- Create scalable platform layers and reusable components for multiple Android devices, OEMs, form factors, and product experiences.
- Prototype new Android capabilities, APIs, and device features to guide technical and product direction.
- Own projects end to end from technical exploration and architecture through implementation, testing, launch, and production iteration.
- Optimize experiences for reliability, performance, power efficiency, and resilience across the Android ecosystem.
- Design for privacy and security when handling permissions, user data, device access, authentication, and system capabilities.
- Collaborate with product, design, research, backend, AI, systems, platform, and external device-partner teams.
- Track Android releases, APIs, device capabilities, and ecosystem developments to identify new platform opportunities.
Requirements
- Deep experience building and shipping high-quality Android software used by real customers.
- Strong knowledge of Android framework APIs, system services, process and application lifecycle, permissions, IPC, background execution, and device capabilities beyond UI and application development.
- High proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java and comfort working in a large Android codebase.
- Experience with AOSP, Android framework internals, system applications, privileged APIs, device software, or OEM-specific Android integrations.
- Experience integrating software with hardware or device capabilities and debugging issues across application, operating-system, and device boundaries.
- Understanding of Android ecosystem challenges including OS versions, device configurations, OEM customizations, permissions, power management, and platform fragmentation.
- Strong product judgment, attention to user experience, ownership, independent execution, and comfort with ambiguous 0-to-1 development.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external platform or device partners.
