Base Salary

$189k - $290k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of GM’s in-vehicle AI assistant application platform on Android Automotive OS.
  • Drive technical execution, roadmaps, architecture decisions, code quality standards, and system design practices across engineering teams.
  • Design developer-facing APIs, SDKs, and shared application libraries for downstream AI and vehicle capability teams.
  • Build hybrid edge-and-cloud architectures and optimize voice/text latency, memory usage, and responsiveness in vehicles.
  • Establish automated testing, continuous integration, validation, benchmarking, and quality feedback infrastructure.
  • Design Android application contracts using Android Interface Definition Language and inter-process communication mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with AI, product management, and user experience teams to deliver resilient platform capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, primarily focused on production Android application architecture.
  • Proven experience serving as a technical lead and guiding architecture and software execution across engineering teams.
  • Expert proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Android Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, and dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.
  • Hands-on experience designing developer-facing APIs, platform SDKs, or shared application libraries.
  • Experience establishing automated testing strategies and continuous integration pipelines for mobile software platforms.
  • Experience with client-server architectures using streaming, gRPC, or REST protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of Android application components, lifecycle management, and IPC/AIDL.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, experience with voice assistants or conversational and agentic applications, Android Automotive OS, client-side machine learning, on-device runtime optimization, and AI/ML evaluation and benchmarking pipelines.

  • Remote/hybrid arrangement with in-office attendance at least three times per week in Austin, Mountain View, or eligible remote work in Washington State, subject to business needs.
  • Base salary range of $189,300-$290,000, plus potential incentive compensation.
