Base Salary

$181k - $300k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own incremental modernization of Chewy’s core fulfillment technology through target architecture, production code, reference implementations, and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Architect highly available, low-latency systems across cloud and edge environments while partnering with infrastructure and networking teams to maintain warehouse operations.
  • Design and build performant, accessible, offline-resilient mobile experiences for warehouse associates.
  • Establish resilient workflow frameworks with state management, validation, exception handling, retries, recovery, observability, and consistent execution.
  • Design integrations across custom and packaged systems, machine-learning and optimization models, robotics, and warehouse control systems.
  • Create auditable patterns for operational events, decisions, workflow transitions, system changes, reconciliation, and traceability.
  • Provide technical leadership across teams, resolve ambiguity, lead design and code reviews, and mentor engineers.
  • Champion AI-assisted software development tools, specification-driven development, and modern engineering practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 12 years of software engineering experience designing and incrementally modernizing large-scale, business-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI-assisted software development tools and workflows to significant engineering initiatives.
  • Expert hands-on programming ability in modern languages, with Java or Kotlin preferred and recent production coding experience.
  • Deep AWS expertise spanning cloud and edge architecture, compute, networking, security, observability, infrastructure automation, and production operations.
  • Deep expertise designing high-throughput, low-latency, event-driven distributed systems using Kafka or comparable streaming technologies.
  • Deep understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, key-value stores, caching layers, object storage, partitioning, replication, durability, and recovery patterns.
  • Experience architecting reliable modern web and mobile applications; React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Android/Kotlin are preferred.
  • Experience designing workflow-driven or stateful operational systems that are flexible, resilient, and observable.
  • Experience integrating custom software, packaged platforms, data products, and decisioning models through APIs, events, and data contracts.
  • Experience designing auditable systems with access controls, change traceability, event history, reconciliation, and retention.
  • Ability to set technical direction, influence across teams, mentor engineers, and champion modern engineering practices.
  • Experience in fulfillment, warehousing, supply chain, high-throughput physical operations, warehouse systems, robotics, industrial controls, vendor integrations, mobile or industrial devices, or distributed device fleets is a bonus.
