
Staff Software Architect - Data Intensive Web-Applications - Personalization

Responsibilities
- Lead system design and hands-on delivery of a data-intensive web product on Microsoft Azure.
- Design and implement services, APIs, the Next.js application layer, integrations, authentication, authorization, and security controls.
- Write code for critical paths and own functionality from system design through production.
- Design data modeling, SQL optimization, caching, pagination, aggregation, search, and asynchronous processing for large data volumes.
- Build dashboards, reports, and data exploration experiences on top of existing data platforms.
- Choose and document appropriate architectural patterns, including modular monoliths, microservices, synchronous systems, and event-driven systems.
- Set standards for observability, automated testing, code review, continuous delivery, and production performance.
- Partner with teams responsible for ingestion, pipelines, and the data platform to securely and efficiently serve data.
- Communicate technical risks, decisions, trade-offs, and system limits to technical and business audiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field; a master's degree or PhD is preferred.
- Experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Software Architect, or equivalent designing and shipping large-scale, high-performance web applications and backend systems.
- Proven production-scale system design experience, including service boundaries, data flow, consistency, failure modes, and architectural trade-offs.
- Deep hands-on Java experience, plus Go and/or Python where appropriate.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, and Next.js sufficient to shape and contribute to the web application.
- Production experience with Microsoft Azure, API and integration design, and distributed systems.
- Strong SQL, data modeling, and query optimization skills, plus experience with NoSQL, caching, search, and performant data-heavy user interfaces and APIs.
- Experience with automated testing, continuous delivery, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and production diagnosis using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Preferred experience includes analytics or business intelligence products, conversational interfaces, multi-tenant systems, Domain-Driven Design, feature flags, and progressive delivery.
- Ability to make pragmatic architectural trade-offs, stay close to the code, and raise engineering quality through reviews and collaboration.
