Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate distributed backend services against latency, availability, and cost targets.
- Build typed and versioned API contracts, authentication, authorization, multi-tenant access control, and integrations with internal and AI-agent services.
- Own the analytical data read path, including data modeling, query plans, pagination, batching, caching, consistency, and query optimization.
- Profile services, reduce tail latency, optimize cost per request, and conduct load and capacity testing before launches.
- Implement metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, alerts, dashboards, feature flags, canary releases, and rollback practices.
- Participate in on-call, diagnose reliability issues, lead incident response and blameless postmortems, and raise engineering standards through reviews and design work.
- Deliver full-stack features from APIs to the user interface when required, and critically review code generated by coding agent harnesses.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field is required; a master's degree or PhD is a plus.
- Relevant experience designing, building, and operating distributed backend services in production, including coding standards, code review, automated testing, deployment, and operations.
- Track record of delivering end-to-end features and owning them in production, with experience designing for reliability and scale.
- Deep command of at least one high-performance language such as Java/Kotlin, Go, Rust, C++, or C#, including memory, concurrency, and runtime concepts.
- Ability to work productively in Python and relevant experience delivering full-stack applications with TypeScript and a modern web framework.
- Production observability experience with metrics, tracing, logging, SLOs, and tools such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus.
- Experience with profiling, query optimization, caching strategies, load testing, distributed systems, timeouts, retries, idempotency, partial failure, streaming, and tail-latency analysis.
- Day-to-day fluency with Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar coding agent harnesses, including reviewing generated code against tests, types, and contracts.
- Clear written and verbal communication and advanced English communication skills; Spanish is a plus.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with OLAP, columnar stores, semantic layers, data platform integration, LLM or agent-service integration, B2B or multi-tenant products, cloud platforms, containers, and Kubernetes.
