Base Salary
$210k - $245k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive the team’s technical vision and long-term strategy.
- Build trading and money-movement technology for Betterment’s Broker Dealer platform.
- Design, build, scale, optimize, and maintain backend software components and distributed systems.
- Improve system stability, efficiency, performance, and security.
- Lead cross-team projects and support on-time delivery through technical tradeoff decisions.
- Mentor engineers and spread engineering knowledge and practices across the organization.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in at least one object-oriented programming language; Java experience is a strong plus.
- 7+ years of professional experience with SQL and relational databases, including schema design and detailed SQL queries.
- Strong command of algorithms and data structures.
- Experience scaling and optimizing large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining core backend software components.
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects spanning one or more teams while balancing delivery, quality, performance, and security.
- Ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs to ship without compromising quality.
- Commitment to investing in solid automated testing and strong software development practices.
