Responsibilities
- Lead the full AI/ML lifecycle from ideation through production for clinical and operational healthcare applications.
- Own the design and quality of the backend and AI services domain, including API design, data access patterns, model-call orchestration, and evaluation.
- Provide strategic direction, technical leadership, roadmap input, and standards for AI engineering initiatives.
- Lead the design, development, integration, standardization, verification, validation, risk mitigation, and deployment of AI-driven solutions.
- Develop and evaluate AI/ML solutions using techniques including deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and large language models.
- Design and maintain tools and automated release pipelines for consistent AI software development and deployment.
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, data privacy standards, and quality-system procedures.
- Lead consultative services and multidisciplinary collaboration with clinicians, product managers, designers, IT professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Mentor engineers and support training, workshops, talent development, and knowledge sharing.
- Publish and present AI development and translation results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Requirements
- Master's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, health science, or a related field with 9 years of relevant experience, or bachelor's degree with 11 years of relevant experience.
- At least 9 years of experience applying AI and machine learning in production healthcare environments or similar regulated or technology-focused industries.
- Demonstrated leadership of complex projects and technical or quantitative teams in regulated environments.
- Expertise in AI/ML techniques, frameworks, data engineering, data science, AI engineering, and MLOps practices.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, software development tools, and large, complex, heterogeneous datasets.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare workflows, electronic health records, medical terminologies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Experience mentoring and training less-experienced team members and communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred doctorate degree and strong expertise with deep learning, natural language processing, and Generative AI.
- Preferred production-scale backend and AI-facing services experience, including API design, data access patterns, and model-call orchestration and evaluation.
- Preferred experience with healthcare informatics standards, common data models, quality engineering, compliance frameworks, risk-management files, and verification/validation strategies.
- Preferred expertise in user-centered design, human-factors engineering, usability testing, and evaluation of AI products.
