Responsibilities
- Lead the AI roadmap and provide strategic direction and technical leadership for AI Engineering initiatives.
- Design, develop, integrate, standardize, verify, validate, and deploy end-to-end AI/ML solutions for clinical and operational healthcare applications.
- Apply deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, large language models, prompt engineering, A/B testing, and comparative testing to healthcare problems.
- Establish evaluation methodologies and performance metrics for effectiveness, usability, impact, and post-deployment performance of AI systems.
- Oversee AI development and deployment systems, tools, automated releases, and associated CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure AI solutions meet ethical, regulatory, quality, risk management, data privacy, and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Lead collaboration with clinicians, UX designers, product managers, IT professionals, and external partners to translate clinical needs into AI solution requirements.
- Provide consultative services and communicate technical findings and recommendations to clinical, business, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and contribute to technical workshops, talent development, publications, and conference presentations.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, health science, or a related field plus seven years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree plus nine years of relevant experience.
- At least seven years of experience applying AI and machine learning in production healthcare environments or similar regulated or technology-focused industries.
- Demonstrated leadership of complex projects and technical or quantitative teams in regulated environments.
- Expertise in AI/ML techniques, frameworks, data engineering, data science, AI engineering, and MLOps practices.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, software development tools, and large, complex, heterogeneous datasets.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare technology, clinical workflows, electronic health records, medical terminologies, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and common data models.
- Experience designing and interpreting AI evaluation studies, including prompt engineering, A/B testing, comparative testing, and post-deployment monitoring.
- Experience mentoring and training less-experienced team members and communicating complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Keras, generative AI, healthcare informatics standards, usability testing, human factors engineering, risk management files, and verification/validation strategies.
- A Ph.D. or other doctorate, participation in standards organizations, and experience with quality engineering and compliance frameworks are preferred.
