Responsibilities
- Use Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot and other agentic AI coding tools to delegate implementation, review AI-generated code, and integrate it into production.
- Build and ship payment platform features while owning quality and working directly with product and engineering teams.
- Design and implement shared architectural layers, including queuing, event systems, shared memory clusters, and reusable libraries.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, lead adoption of new designs, and influence technical roadmaps across multiple teams.
- Lead architectural discussions and own key platform projects and initiatives.
- Review technical specifications, participate in code and design reviews, and mentor team members.
- Spend approximately 70% of working time writing code while providing hands-on technical leadership.
- Champion engineering best practices, innovation, and reuse across development, QA, and infrastructure/operations.
Requirements
- Required experience using AI-assisted and agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor in production workflows.
- 15+ years of experience with large-scale backend services, payment system architecture and implementation, or related professional industry experience.
- Strong understanding of payment processing, card tokenization, payment gateway integration, token vault management, synchronous and asynchronous flows, and online and offline processing.
- Familiarity with SOX, PCI, and 3DS compliance standards.
- Experience with RFP processes, translating business needs into vendor requirements, evaluating third-party vendors, and supporting vendor selection.
- Strong architectural design experience building highly available and scalable payment platforms and complex transactional systems.
- Expertise in payments and billing systems.
- Strong expertise with cloud systems using AWS or GCP; multi-cloud experience is a plus.
- Experience designing and leading highly complex transactional systems.
- Strong experience building and adopting CI/CD pipelines.

- Estimated California annual salary is $400,000-$500,000.
