Base Salary
$220k - $405k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend session-worker architecture for realtime voice, including durable per-session workers, provider routing, and stateful streaming over gRPC.
- Own distributed-systems concerns including session lifecycle, crash recovery, reconnection and replay, multi-region deployment, and graceful degradation under production load.
- Build provider-agnostic streaming protocols between backend services and the Rust SDK.
- Drive voice and multimodal AI products from problem definition and technical design through implementation and launch.
- Build orchestration for live voice models to safely and asynchronously delegate work to tools, agents, and long-running tasks.
- Partner with SDK, client, infrastructure, and model teams and work across backend services and client-facing APIs as needed.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience building backend or distributed systems.
- Strong experience with Rust, Python, or Go, with primary work in Rust and Python.
- Experience designing and operating production distributed systems, including streaming RPC, stateful services, message-driven architectures, and failure recovery.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure, including deploying, scaling, and operating services on AWS or an equivalent platform.
- Strong product judgment and ability to translate user problems into effective technical solutions.
- Genuine interest in and adoption of AI products and willingness to learn quickly.
- Experience with realtime media systems, voice, audio streaming, WebRTC, or low-latency transport is a plus.
- Full-stack experience spanning backend services, client SDKs, or web frontends is a plus.
- Experience integrating LLMs, speech models, or computer vision into production systems is a plus.
- Experience with agent frameworks, tool-calling architectures, or sandboxed execution environments is a plus.
- Experience at a fast-growing startup or on a high-ownership engineering team is a plus.
