Responsibilities
- Lead the design and enterprise rollout of AI platform infrastructure by gathering stakeholder requirements, evaluating tradeoffs, and building consensus.
- Build and maintain AI platform infrastructure including API integrations, model access pipelines, system connectors using MCP and tool use, and on-premises compute environments as needed.
- Develop custom AI-powered applications, workflows, and integrations connecting frontier models to project management, documentation, communications, and operational systems.
- Own evaluation and selection of AI providers, tools, and platforms, including build-versus-buy decisions based on capability, compliance, and speed to value.
- Mentor and serve as a technical role model for other engineers.
- Deliver AI training and enablement through workshops, office hours, documentation, and shared hands-on resources.
- Partner with engineering, security, and IT teams to ensure AI deployments meet government security and compliance requirements across data classification levels.
- Monitor the evolving AI landscape and recommend models, tools, and capabilities that can accelerate the company.
Requirements
- Typically 8+ years of software engineering, DevOps, or cloud engineering experience with technical leadership, roadmap ownership, architectural decision-making, and mentoring experience.
- Strong software engineering background with experience building and shipping production systems, ideally using Python, TypeScript, or similar languages used in AI/ML tooling.
- Experience using AI-powered development tools to deliver production code and automate routine tasks.
- Experience with large language model APIs, prompt engineering, tool use, retrieval-augmented generation, or agent frameworks such as CrewAI and Pydantic AI.
- Experience working across infrastructure, application development, platform architecture, and multiple teams to establish requirements and reach consensus.
- Experience owning technical roadmaps, setting technical standards, making architectural decisions, and driving adoption across multiple teams or products.
- Experience with software development lifecycle practices including CI/CD pipelines, continuous testing, and monitoring.
- Experience deploying and operating production workloads in AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environments.
- Strong communication skills for translating technical AI concepts to non-technical audiences through training, documentation, and direct support.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
- Preferred: experience deploying AI or ML systems in government, defense, or regulated environments with security and compliance constraints.
- Preferred: familiarity with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and IL4/IL5 authorization frameworks.
- Preferred: experience with model hosting or fine-tuning, model benchmarking, cost evaluation, LLM evaluation frameworks, OpenTelemetry tracing, model measurement, or observability frameworks.
- Preferred: background in developer tooling, platform engineering, internal tools, knowledge retrieval systems, embedding pipelines, or enterprise search infrastructure.
- An active U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance is preferred.
