Responsibilities
- Own the target-state solution architecture for the global Digital Quality product portfolio.
- Define and maintain architecture standards, reference patterns, reusable components, and engineering guardrails across integration, data, identity, AI, validation, and cybersecurity.
- Drive scaled adoption of AI and agentic AI, including shared services, retrieval, evaluation, model monitoring, lifecycle management, and human oversight.
- Serve as design authority for significant investments and provide architectural assurance on build-versus-buy, platform selection, vendor fit, cost, risk, compliance, and time to value.
- Provide hands-on technical direction to solution leads, product managers, engineers, architects, and vendor teams without direct reporting authority.
- Mentor architects and engineers and lead architecture and AI communities of practice.
- Embed GxP compliance, data integrity, privacy, and cybersecurity requirements into architecture decisions.
- Evaluate emerging AI, data, and platform technologies through proofs of concept and translate successful experiments into production capability.
- Influence architecture and technology decisions for an approximately $10M annual software, services, and transformation investment portfolio.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Environmental or Occupational Health Sciences, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in solution architecture, technical leadership, or enterprise software delivery; 9+ years with an MS/MBA or 7+ years with a PhD.
- Demonstrated accountability for architecture across a portfolio of products rather than a single application.
- Experience designing and delivering AI or machine learning capabilities into production, including large language model and agentic architecture patterns, retrieval, evaluation, and model lifecycle management.
- Strong experience with cloud, integration, and data architecture and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience setting and driving adoption of technical standards across teams without direct reporting relationships.
- Experience across the full system and application lifecycle, from value analysis and business case through deployment, value realization, and technical debt management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to senior non-technical leaders.
- Preferred experience in pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated manufacturing environments, including GxP validation and data integrity expectations.
- Preferred working knowledge of quality or EHS processes and supporting platforms such as Veeva, LIMS, and Cority.
- Preferred experience deploying AI in regulated contexts, including responsible AI governance, model risk assessment, and human-in-the-loop design.
- Recognized architecture or cloud architecture certification, such as TOGAF, is preferred.
- External technical contributions through industry forums, working groups, publications, or conference speaking are preferred.
