Base Salary
$185k - $205k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and build frontend systems that handle high-frequency real-time data at scale.
- Design data ingestion, transformation, state management, rendering, batching, throttling, caching, worker, and state-isolation strategies.
- Develop scalable real-time geospatial interfaces, map layers, feature identity, interaction state, and rendering systems.
- Profile and optimize browser rendering, memory, CPU, network, and GPU performance.
- Design resilient behavior for intermittent or degraded connectivity, including reconnection, state reconciliation, and offline tolerance.
- Identify architectural and performance risks and drive solutions before they affect production.
- Partner with frontend leadership and senior engineers on architecture, technical strategy, and scaling decisions.
- Lead design reviews, communicate technical tradeoffs, mentor senior engineers, and raise frontend engineering standards.
Requirements
- 10+ years of frontend engineering experience, including significant Staff, Principal, or equivalent technical scope.
- Deep production experience building and scaling high-volume, real-time applications.
- Expert-level experience with React and TypeScript and a first-principles understanding of frontend rendering and performance.
- Deep experience building map-based geospatial applications with MapLibre, Mapbox GL, Deck.gl, or equivalent technologies.
- Demonstrated experience optimizing large, dynamic geospatial feature sets and scaling tracked entities, update frequency, or data volume.
- Experience with multiple real-time communication technologies such as WebSockets, MQTT, gRPC-web, SSE, or similar protocols.
- Deep browser performance expertise across rendering, memory, CPU, networking, and GPU bottlenecks.
- Experience designing client-side data architectures using workers, batching, caching, and state boundaries.
- Experience designing applications for degraded or intermittent connectivity, including reconnection and state reconciliation.
- Strong software architecture, systems-design, technical judgment, communication, ownership, and ambiguity-management skills.
- Preferred experience evolving internal operational tools into scalable multi-tenant products; data visualization with D3 or custom charting; WebGL, Three.js, custom shaders, terrain visualization, or 3D geospatial applications; autonomous systems, robotics, command-and-control software, or mission- and safety-critical environments; and distributed systems or telemetry platforms.
