Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects.
- Lead complex initiatives from technical strategy through execution across systems and stakeholders.
- Design and operate highly available, scalable backend and distributed systems.
- Own monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call operations.
- Establish and advocate for code review, system design, and engineering quality standards.
- Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams on risks and trade-offs.
- Mentor engineers, provide feedback and guidance, and support talent development.
- Share technical expertise through writing, tech talks, and cross-team advocacy.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Strong experience delivering major features or system components and deprecating functionality through technical and execution plans.
- Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture and navigate ambiguity.
- Demonstrated growth through gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
