Responsibilities
- Lead migrations of product workloads.
- Advise product engineers on data placement, access patterns, and database scalability.
- Build reusable data-sync utilities, ORM best practices, and access-pattern, schema, and index review practices.
- Drive large-scale changes to data infrastructure, including caching, search, and event streaming capabilities.
- Partner with product engineering and platform/infrastructure teams across the organization.
- Write, review, and ship production software in addition to database-layer work.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience owning OLTP access patterns, indexing, query optimization, and schema design in user-facing applications.
- Strong ability to write product-stack code while reasoning carefully at the database layer.
- Deep expertise with a major relational engine, with Postgres strongly preferred, in high-volume production environments.
- Experience with schema design, indexing, query optimization, and zero-downtime migrations on large live tables.
- Experience scaling systems through substantial traffic and data growth in a high-scale domain such as advertising analytics, fintech/trading, consumer SaaS, or marketplaces.
- Strong software engineering ability and experience shipping production code rather than SQL alone.
- Strong written and verbal communication, flexible problem solving, personal ownership, accountability, and a builder mentality.
- Experience migrating workloads such as MongoDB to Postgres is a strong plus.
- Preferred experience building shared platform primitives, including data-sync tooling, ORM practices, caching, search, queues, or event streaming.
- Preferred experience with payments or financial data, cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, and observability or performance tooling.
