Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and ship features for ingesting, storing, indexing, and querying security report data.
- Improve data-ingestion reliability and query performance using defined metrics.
- Develop the PostgreSQL data layer supporting vulnerability and dependency management.
- Build and improve Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL systems and contribute to newer Go or Rust services.
- Contribute to integrations with third-party security systems.
- Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews.
- Collaborate with product and engineering partners and deliver iteratively within GitLab’s monthly release cycle.
- Apply security considerations when designing systems, including handling malicious or vulnerable software packages.
Requirements
- Professional backend engineering experience shipping production features in a collaborative team.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, including indexes, query plans, and schema design.
- Professional experience with Ruby on Rails, Go, or Python, with comfort working in Ruby on Rails day to day.
- Experience taking features from description through production and clarifying ambiguous requirements.
- Clear written communication and comfort working remotely and asynchronously across time zones.
- Interest in the security domain; vulnerability management, dependency management, or security tooling experience is helpful.
- Fluency using artificial intelligence tools to improve delivery and learning while applying sound engineering judgment.
