Responsibilities
- Own and deliver complex features or subsystems within Copilot Search and BizChat from design through production and iteration.
- Design, implement, and operate high-scale backend services for search, retrieval, grounding, and answer generation.
- Drive engineering quality across correctness, performance, reliability, security, and compliance.
- Partner with product managers, Applied Science, and other teams to translate customer needs into technical solutions.
- Lead execution across ambiguous problem spaces, decompose work into milestones, and drive predictable delivery.
- Diagnose and resolve live-site issues, production regressions, and quality gaps using telemetry and data.
- Mentor and unblock engineers, review designs and code, and model strong engineering practices.
- Collaborate across Teams, Outlook, Microsoft 365, and platform organizations to deliver integrated experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Coding experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, or similar languages.
- Six or more years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems preferred.
- Experience with distributed systems, backend services, or large-scale platforms.
- Proficiency in one or more of C++, C#, Java, or similar system-level languages preferred.
- Experience designing, implementing, testing, and operating production services.
- Experience using data, telemetry, and live-site diagnostics to drive quality.
- Experience with search, retrieval, ranking, recommendation systems, or AI-powered applications preferred.
- Familiarity with Azure, service reliability, and operational best practices.
- Experience working in cross-organization, multi-team environments.
- Exposure to Copilot-style scenarios, grounding, citations, or answer-quality problems preferred.
- Demonstrated mentoring or technical leadership within a team preferred.
