Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, implement, and support scalable software, platform, and operational tooling across Mainframe and Distributed environments.
- Diagnose and resolve production incidents, batch failures, application outages, performance bottlenecks, and infrastructure issues.
- Improve platform reliability, resiliency, availability, recoverability, performance, security, and operational efficiency through automation and engineering practices.
- Support IBM Mainframe technologies and hybrid Mainframe-cloud or Distributed architectures, modernization initiatives, API enablement, and enterprise integration.
- Develop automation for deployments, monitoring, reporting, remediation, and self-service using scripting and operational tools.
- Implement monitoring, observability, logging, analytics, KPIs, SLOs, and operational metrics for platform health.
- Support disaster recovery, high availability, workload management, capacity planning, business continuity, incident management, problem management, and change management.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, engineering, infrastructure, operations, and business stakeholders to define technical solutions and communicate risks and recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or comparable experience.
- 5+ years of mainframe experience and knowledge.
- Experience in software engineering, application support, infrastructure operations, or runtime engineering.
- Experience with JCL, COBOL, and DB2 is preferred.
- Hands-on experience supporting IBM Mainframe technologies including z/OS, JES2/JES3, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, DB2 for z/OS, IMS, VSAM, MQ, CICS, and RACF.
- Working understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, containerization, and critical business application support.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, incident management, production reliability, and performance practices.
- Solid programming and scripting skills, including Python, REXX, Ezytrieve, PowerShell, or similar tools.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as DB2, Redis, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, IMS DB, and VSAM.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; public cloud certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with Control-M or similar scheduling tools, IBM mainframe utilities, SORT utilities, File Aid, Abend Aid, SPUFI, QMF, and BMC Apptune or similar performance products.
- Knowledge of automation, CI/CD, DevOps practices, distributed platforms, APIs, integration patterns, and container technologies.
