Base Salary
$126k - $180k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build infrastructure-as-code, CLI tools, and CI/CD-driven automation for self-service database provisioning, scaling, failover, and deployment.
- Serve as the technical depth for relational database scaling, replication, failover, backup and recovery, and performance optimization.
- Design common tooling and guardrails for document, key-value, columnar, and other datastore systems across the fleet.
- Define and track SLOs and error budgets, improve monitoring and alerting, and implement high-availability architectures.
- Participate in on-call support, troubleshoot production issues, and improve incident response and recovery.
- Integrate databases with upstream and downstream batch and real-time data pipelines, message queues, ETL workflows, and processing frameworks.
- Identify and automate repetitive operational work while improving documentation, retrospectives, and platform playbooks.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in the field.
- Deep experience managing and scaling relational databases such as PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora, including replication, failover, backup and recovery, and query or engine-level performance tuning.
- Experience building automation, self-service tooling, and operational guardrails for database infrastructure.
- Production experience with at least one non-relational paradigm, such as NoSQL, columnar, document, or key-value systems.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms and services including AWS RDS, Redshift, EMR, Google BigQuery, or Databricks.
- Experience with Terraform and automated solutions for support and operational issues.
- Proficiency writing scripts, command-line tools, or services in languages such as Python or Go.
- Understanding of observability tooling, SLOs, error budgets, and production incident response.
- Experience integrating data pipelines and real-time messaging systems such as Kafka or Kinesis.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and own uptime and recovery responsibilities across multiple database technologies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across infrastructure, data, and product teams.
