Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of distributed real-time simulation systems supporting autonomy development, verification, and validation.
- Architect and implement C++ software for modelling, simulation, and integration workflows while maintaining legacy-standard compatibility.
- Develop, optimize, and deploy real-time mission execution software for multi-agent and high-fidelity system-of-systems simulations.
- Integrate defence simulation frameworks such as AFSIM and NGTS.
- Use Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent technologies for repeatable and scalable simulation deployments.
- Lead engineering teams of five or more contributors across software, test, autonomy, perception, and program stakeholders.
- Integrate simulation with autonomy algorithms, hardware interfaces, and test pipelines for experimentation, regression testing, and mission readiness.
- Champion software engineering practices including CI/CD, test-driven development, design patterns, and system architecture improvement.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Extensive professional experience in software engineering and systems integration.
- Strong experience with modern C++ and familiarity with legacy C++ standards.
- Professional experience with Python.
- Significant experience building and delivering reliable software systems in fast-paced environments.
- Experience leading teams in the delivery of complex engineering projects.
- Experience with real-time distributed simulation systems or HWIL/SWIL environments.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
- Experience working in Linux development environments.
- Ability to solve complex problems quickly and effectively and collaborate as a trusted teammate.
- Ability to obtain an Australian NV1 security clearance.
- Preferred qualifications include defence industry experience, uncrewed air systems experience, AFSIM or NGTS experience, and experience with data processing, analysis pipelines, or Python-based test automation workflows.
