Responsibilities
- Own critical backend and platform components that orchestrate Spark and Trino distributed compute for enterprise customers.
- Lead the design and implementation of JVM-based services and surrounding infrastructure.
- Design Kubernetes deployments, Docker image strategies, CI/CD automation, AWS integrations, and secure enterprise authentication flows.
- Provide architectural leadership, cross-team influence, and long-term ownership of platform health.
- Drive RFCs, improve engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional backend experience with strong Java expertise and production experience building JVM-based services.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production; Spark, Trino, Presto, or comparable distributed compute experience is a strong plus.
- Extensive experience designing and evolving RESTful APIs, including validation, error modeling, pagination, filtering, backward-compatible versioning, and OpenAPI documentation.
- Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes, including authoring manifests or Helm charts, and strong Docker experience.
- Experience owning CI/CD for complex Java codebases using GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Practical AWS experience with S3 or compatible object storage, IAM roles and policies, and AWS SSO.
- Familiarity with OAuth2, OIDC, token-based authentication, and session management.
- Experience with Prometheus metrics, OpenTelemetry distributed tracing, and structured logging is a plus.
- Proven ability to lead architecture across multiple services or systems, drive cross-team RFCs, influence engineering standards, mentor engineers, and own long-term platform health.
- Highly preferred: job orchestration platform experience, enterprise or B2B experience, strong Python skills for automation and tooling, hybrid or on-premises systems experience, and open-source collaboration.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% in person.
