Base Salary
$160k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own one or more avionics subsystems, including design, implementation, integration, and production readiness.
- Develop and maintain flight- and safety-critical embedded Linux software, including drivers, device bring-up, real-time data interfaces, fault management, and graceful degradation.
- Define reliability and observability outcomes, instrument systems, and use flight data to detect regressions and prioritize fixes.
- Lead hardware-in-the-loop, bench, and field validation, including repeatable test plans and failure-insertion exercises.
- Build deterministic testing, logging, post-flight analysis, and automated regression-testing tools for fleet deployments.
- Triage high-severity field incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, implement fixes, and verify fleet-level resolution.
- Collaborate with avionics hardware, systems engineering, manufacturing, and flight operations on integration boundaries, certification inputs, and release criteria.
- Participate in field testing, occasional travel to flight-test sites, and incident response outside standard hours for critical fleet incidents.
Requirements
- Substantial experience shipping production embedded code in C++ or Rust.
- Required experience with embedded Linux; bare-metal or RTOS experience is preferred.
- Proven experience deploying and operating embedded software in safety- or mission-critical systems such as aviation, robotics, or industrial controls.
- Experience with fault management, deterministic real-time requirements, and software validation strategies.
- Ability to read schematics, bring up peripherals from datasheets, and debug hardware/software interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and in-field telemetry.
- History of owning subsystem delivery end to end, shipping repeatable test suites, and meeting quantified reliability targets.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience.
- Typically 5+ years of experience in embedded or flight-critical systems, or equivalent demonstrated impact.
Benefits
- Starting cash range is $160,000–$250,000, with potential equity compensation, discretionary annual or performance bonuses, medical, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, and other benefits.
- The role may be hired at the Software Engineer II, Senior Software Engineer, or Staff Software Engineer level depending on experience, skills, and scope.
- The position includes occasional travel to flight-test sites and participation in critical incident response outside standard working hours.
