Base Salary
$152k - $194k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design scalable backend systems and implement features across Java Spring microservices
- Fix bugs, refactor code, and improve the long-term health of backend projects
- Define and advance the technical vision for backend engineering
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted development practices within the backend team
- Collaborate through pairing sessions, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and weekly Friday Dev Chats
- Mentor and lead junior engineers in software engineering methods, design, and best practices
- Partner with product teams and feature owners to take requirements through execution and deployment
- Apply AI to code review, test generation, and documentation while owning the correctness of generated code
Requirements
- BA/BS degree and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience with Java 17+ and migration toward Java 21, Spring Boot 3.x, JPA/Hibernate 6, and SQL relational databases
- Experience designing event-driven microservices and applying Domain-Driven Design, hexagonal architecture, and CQRS
- In-depth knowledge of relational database indexes, connection pools, ACID transactions, and schema performance implications
- Experience with NoSQL databases and the ability to choose between NoSQL and relational databases appropriately
- Experience writing unit and integration tests and maintaining strong code coverage
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex or similar tools
- Familiarity with agentic or CLI-based AI workflows and Model Context Protocol integrations
- Ability to evaluate, refactor, and validate AI-generated code for production readiness
- Demonstrated project coordination or management skills
- Real estate experience with transferable skills is an asset
- Must be based in the United States and willing to work Eastern time zone hours
