Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed backend systems for the recommendations pipeline and AI workflow execution engine.
- Own and harden infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes by improving reliability, observability, and scalability.
- Improve eventing, streaming, retries, backpressure, and recovery to make systems resilient to failure.
- Reduce infrastructure single points of failure and share operational and on-call ownership.
- Design service and API boundaries and optimize MongoDB data models and queries.
- Build reliable systems on top of non-deterministic, LLM-backed components.
- Collaborate with product engineers, product managers, and designers to ship end-to-end functionality.
- Raise standards for tested, observable, maintainable code and design documentation.
- Mentor engineers on backend and reliability practices.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
- Business-level fluency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating backend systems in production, ideally in scalable, multi-tenant SaaS.
- Depth in distributed systems, including concurrency, asynchronous and eventually consistent processing, queues or streaming, and failure-oriented design.
- Strong Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js skills and experience modeling data in MongoDB or a comparable database.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability practices.
- Commitment to testing, documentation, reliability, clear communication, and mentoring earlier-career engineers.
- Workflow or orchestration engine experience with tools such as n8n, Temporal, or Airflow is a bonus.
- Experience operating LLM-backed or agentic systems in production is a bonus.
