Responsibilities
- Own the technical outcome of a value-stream pod from problem shaping through production operation.
- Partner directly with transformation leadership, examiners, nurse reviewers, operations teams, and vendors to shape problems and define scoped solutions.
- Architect and personally build production Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications using Python and React.
- Set engineering standards for API-first and contract-first delivery, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, evaluation, observability, and human confirmation on consequential claims actions.
- Establish evaluation, provenance, and autonomy-ladder evidence for AI workflows, including human-in-the-loop requirements.
- Lead technical solution design, architectural reviews, complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
- Represent the pod on the AI Engineering design council and exercise stewardship over shared technical substrates.
- Define interface terms, repositories, contracts, and completion criteria with vendor delivery teams.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Senior and Junior AI Engineers without people-management authority.
- Evaluate whether capabilities should be built internally, co-developed with vendors, or not built, including ownership and removal paths.
- Travel as required, including regular on-site work with claims or Managed Care operations and vendor delivery teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- 10 or more years of software engineering experience, including at least four years owning production Generative AI or applied-AI systems in the field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on production experience with AWS, Python, React, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
- Expert full-stack engineering skills with strong SQL, APIs, and service design experience, including continued production coding.
- Production experience with Generative AI agents, workflows, and applications, including tool use, orchestration, evaluation, provenance, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
- Experience leading technical delivery for a value stream or equivalent without people-management authority.
- Experience with identity, networking, environments, operational recovery, and cloud infrastructure standards.
- Ability to shape ambiguous operational problems, define explicit non-goals, maintain shared substrates, and stop duplicate builds.
- Strong mentoring, collaboration, and technical communication skills with transformation leadership, architecture, security, engineering peers, vendors, and operations leaders.
- Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another heavily regulated operational domain is preferred.
- Experience with machine learning, model fine-tuning, graph databases such as Neo4j, PydanticAI or an equivalent agent framework, agent observability, and AI Ops or LLMOps is preferred or a plus.
- Ability to meet or exceed stated performance competencies and handle complex troubleshooting, judgment, multiple priorities, and deadlines.
Benefits
- Remote role open to U.S.-based candidates.
- Regular on-site work and travel are required as needed with claims or Managed Care operations and vendor delivery teams.
- Reasonable accommodation will be considered when applicable and appropriate.
