Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and ship bare-* native modules end to end.
- Write C native addons that bridge Bluetooth, networking, filesystem, and cryptographic platform APIs into JavaScript.
- Maintain and extend existing native modules and help reduce the Bare-to-Node.js API compatibility gap.
- Set up and maintain cross-platform builds and CI for macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
- Own cross-compilation toolchain configuration and investigate platform-specific build and toolchain failures.
- Contribute to the Bare runtime core, including its module system, native addon system, and lightweight threads.
- Evaluate and integrate alternative JavaScript engines such as libjerry.
- Debug native addon issues across operating systems, mobile platforms, and device targets.
- Write and maintain tests for all modules.
- Respond to internal and public team inquiries, communicate progress and decisions in writing, participate in weekly status calls and workshops, and coordinate with product teams including Keet and WDK/Wallet.
Requirements
- Strong C programming skills with experience writing and debugging native code across platforms.
- Advanced JavaScript skills and a solid understanding of Node.js internals and its module ecosystem.
- Experience building native addons for Node.js or similar runtimes using N-API, node-gyp, or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with libuv or another asynchronous I/O framework.
- Comfort working with macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS build toolchains.
- Experience with cross-compilation and platform-specific system APIs, including Bluetooth, networking, and filesystem APIs.
- Ability to read and navigate large C and C++ codebases.
- Self-directed work style and strong written communication skills.
