Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services for satellite passes, autopilots, activities, and daily operations.
- Handle satellite commands and telemetry across multiple satellite buses and ground segment providers with a focus on safety, robustness, and observability.
- Write production Python backend code and own services from design and implementation through deployment and maintenance.
- Collaborate with flight software, embedded software, integration and test, and space infrastructure teams to integrate satellite buses and capabilities into Cockpit.
- Improve APIs, workflows, and debugging tools for Cockpit operators, test engineers, and solutions engineers.
- Participate in SatDevOps rotations, investigate anomalies, and support real-time incident response when needed.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of relevant backend software engineering experience in production environments.
- Solid production Python development experience.
- Experience with Docker and container-based development.
- Hands-on experience with backend web development frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Proven ability to design, document, and maintain HTTP, GraphQL, or REST-style APIs.
- Preferred qualifications include Django or GraphQL experience, database fundamentals with systems such as Postgres or time-series databases, production Kubernetes exposure, familiarity with InfluxDB or TimescaleDB, and experience with mission-critical, distributed, or real-time systems.
