Base Salary
$227k - $259k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive the technical strategy and delivery of applications and plugins integrating Ditto synchronization into primary situational-awareness tools.
- Architect and develop performant Android applications and services for disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth tactical environments.
- Define integration architecture, data contracts, API boundaries, and synchronization patterns across Ditto and the broader TAK ecosystem.
- Diagnose and resolve complex application, integration, and data-flow issues on end-user devices in live operational environments.
- Build tooling and practices that improve the team’s ability to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Mentor engineers, review designs and code, and raise the team’s depth in Android, ATAK/TAK, and integration architecture.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to define the edge integration roadmap based on field constraints and operational realities.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience building, shipping, and maintaining production applications at scale.
- At least 4 years of mobile application development experience with deep familiarity with the Android SDK, Kotlin and/or Java.
- Strong integration design skills, including API contracts, data synchronization patterns, and loosely coupled interoperable systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in architectural decisions, technical direction, trade-off evaluation, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, design guidance, or direct coaching.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate operational and technical complexity into actionable requirements.
- Experience with CRDTs or local-first architectures is preferred.
- Cross-platform mobile experience involving iOS, Windows, or Linux is preferred.
- Significant ATAK/TAK experience, including ATAK plugin development, CoT messaging, TAK Server integration, or plugin architecture, is preferred.
- Tactical networking experience with constrained, mesh, or MANET radio networks is preferred.
- Embedded database and offline-first persistence experience with SQLite, Realm, or similar technologies is preferred.
- Tactical edge deployment experience in field or operational environments is preferred.
- SOCOM, Department of Defense, or federal customer experience and familiarity with secure or classified networks is preferred.
- Technical lead experience on a small team or complex cross-functional initiative is preferred.
- Backend or systems development experience with Go, Rust, or Python is preferred.
