- Design, build, and operate high-performance, stable, scalable platform systems and global-scale services in production and non-production environments.
- Set engineering, operational, and security best practices and standards across multiple teams within a platform domain.
- Influence domain- and organization-level strategy, multi-quarter planning, roadmap prioritization, and technical vision with engineering and product leadership.
- Lead major functional and architectural changes across team boundaries and drive consensus on technical direction.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, resolve incidents, and improve system design, runbooks, playbooks, and development processes.
- Provide technical guidance on design, coding, operations, documentation, self-service workflows, and guardrails.
- Drive standards for large-volume transaction systems, data migration workflows, service KPIs, performance, scale, availability, reliability, and security.
- Mentor engineers through Senior and Staff levels and provide input on development needs, growth opportunities, and promotion readiness.
- Participate in on-call and incident response rotations and help coordinate cross-team incidents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 13–16+ years of total software development experience with strong computer science fundamentals.
- Deep hands-on experience with Golang and proficiency in additional programming languages.
- Deep understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or a comparable cloud provider, Kubernetes-based microservice architectures, messaging services, database services, API gateways, service mesh, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Strong distributed systems and asynchronous communication experience, including gRPC and Kafka.
- Ability to implement alerting, metrics, and logging with tools such as Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, and PagerDuty.
- Practical knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and Caffeine for persistence and caching.
- Familiarity with asynchronous, non-blocking, functional, and reactive programming and frameworks such as Spring WebFlux, Vert.x, and Node.js.
- Proven experience building and operating global-scale platform services and contributing to technical vision, strategy, and execution beyond a single team’s backlog.
- Experience with large-volume transaction systems and data migration workflows, emphasizing quality, precision, accuracy, and regression safety.
- Operational experience with on-call work, incident response, and playbooks, plus the ability to collaborate with remote peers across geographies and time zones.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for technical documentation and explaining complex ideas.
