Base Salary

$120k - $261k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and implementation of AI threat detection systems for prompt injection, memory poisoning, data exfiltration, agentic workflow abuse, and adversarial attacks.
  • Develop security services, classifiers, evaluation frameworks, telemetry pipelines, and risk assessment systems for Copilot.
  • Conduct threat modeling, identify security gaps, and develop defenses across AI workflows, orchestration layers, tools, and platform integrations.
  • Partner with product and platform teams to translate security requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Investigate emerging attack techniques and drive root cause analysis and remediation following security incidents.
  • Influence architecture, technical strategy, roadmap planning, and engineering investments related to AI security.
  • Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and provide technical guidance through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead investigations during complex production security events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, C++, Go, Rust, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating production software systems, distributed systems, cloud-native services, or platform infrastructure at scale.
  • Experience identifying, analyzing, or mitigating security risks in production environments.
  • Understanding of AI security challenges including prompt injection, indirect prompt attacks, memory poisoning, data exfiltration, model misuse, and agentic system risks.
  • Experience with security detection systems, reputation systems, anomaly detection platforms, threat intelligence, abuse prevention, or Trust & Safety systems.
  • Experience with large language models, AI systems, machine learning infrastructure, or evaluation frameworks.
  • Experience with threat modeling, security reviews, red teaming, adversarial testing, or incident response.
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives across teams, influence decisions without direct authority, and communicate technical tradeoffs.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master's degree with 6+ years of experience or a bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred contributions include security tooling, patents, publications, open-source projects, or recognized technical leadership in security-related domains.

Benefits

  • The typical U.S. base pay range is $119,800-$234,700 per year, with a separate San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range of $160,200-$261,000 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • The position is open for a minimum of 5 days and accepts applications on an ongoing basis until filled.
