Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of desktop, web, and service-based applications.
- Develop production-quality Python applications, frameworks, APIs, user interfaces, and automation.
- Build modern web and desktop interfaces using Vue and Electron.
- Create and maintain infrastructure as code with Ansible and Terraform/Terragrunt.
- Lead testing, debugging, optimization, and performance improvements.
- Shape requirements, propose technical approaches, and influence project direction.
- Support software integration and deployment into secure operational environments.
- Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for testing, packaging, deployment, and releases.
- Work with MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, and related integration services.
- Occasionally install, configure, and commission hardware in secure environments.
- Engage with users to understand operational challenges and deliver solutions.
- Maintain documentation and traceable, peer-reviewed Git practices.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Extensive experience developing software applications or tools.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with modern application frameworks and automation tooling.
- Experience designing and delivering production-quality applications.
- Strong understanding of UI frameworks, APIs, data handling, system integration, and secure application design.
- Confidence working in Linux and/or macOS development environments.
- Ability to work across multiple programming languages and frameworks.
- Experience with testing frameworks, debugging tools, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitLab.
- Knowledge of secure coding, application security, and security-conscious development lifecycles.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, particularly Ansible and Terraform/Terragrunt.
- Experience with MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar data and messaging technologies.
- Eligibility for DV clearance, including British citizenship and UK residency for the last 10 years.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Professional membership of BCS or IET is a plus.
- Desirable experience includes secure or defense environments, cryptography, secure data handling, Vue, Electron, Flask, FastAPI, Django, containerization, virtualization, distributed systems, message-based architectures, and hardware installation or troubleshooting.
