Responsibilities

  • Work with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and contribute from discovery through production support.
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support software applications, services, and reusable components.
  • Create pragmatic technical designs balancing quality, security, maintainability, and long-term supportability.
  • Develop across backend services, integrations, and user-facing applications.
  • Design secure APIs and integrations across digital products, enterprise systems, and data services.
  • Collaborate with data engineers on APIs, events, and data contracts.
  • Contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
  • Mentor and support colleagues through pairing, review, and day-to-day collaboration.
  • Make appropriate technology choices across a mixed technology estate.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience delivering production software end to end while working closely with stakeholders.
  • Frontend and backend development experience.
  • Experience designing APIs and integrating with enterprise systems and data services.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with relational databases and familiarity with database and caching technologies.
  • Understanding of secure coding, modern authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience delivering software in cloud-hosted environments such as Azure.
  • Ability to work effectively across a mixed technology estate.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience mentoring others through review, pairing, and practical support.
  • Practical use of, or strong interest in, AI-assisted development tools in a responsible delivery environment.
  • Desired experience with container tooling, Microsoft Power Platform, and Office document automation for Excel, Word, and PDF generation.
  • Depending on project requirements, ability to meet UK residency criteria and obtain UK security clearance such as BPSS and potentially SC.
