Base Salary
$170k - $256k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and implement cloud deployment models covering infrastructure as code, environment promotion, secrets management, and delivery pipelines.
- Build reproducible containerized build and release pipelines, consolidate CI/CD infrastructure, and improve pipeline predictability and uptime.
- Own Linux image architecture and build images for sequencing instruments, virtual machines, and hardware variants, including package, driver, device, and firmware integration.
- Replace bespoke scripts and image-baked state with declarative configuration for instruments, build infrastructure, and laboratory systems.
- Establish supply-chain security capabilities including artifact and image signing, verified boot, SBOM generation, vulnerability triage, patch cadence, and hardening baselines.
- Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, IT, and Field Service to deliver auditable, validated, and traceable releases under formal change control.
- Set engineering standards, review designs and code, mentor engineers, and establish technical direction across multiple teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in systems, platform, release, or deployment engineering, or a master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline plus 8+ years of such experience.
- Experience delivering Linux-based systems on appliances, instruments, purpose-built hardware, or comparable customer or field environments.
- Fluency in Python and shell for production automation.
- Deep hands-on Linux expertise covering boot chains, systemd, filesystems, partitioning, packaging, and kernel or driver integration.
- Experience designing and operating automated, reproducible image-build pipelines and evaluating build trustworthiness.
- Experience delivering auditable and reproducible software under formal change control in regulated or high-consequence environments.
- Strong hands-on ownership of CI/CD systems at scale, including pipeline-as-code, containerized builds, build-agent fleet management, and infrastructure as code.
- Production experience deploying customer-facing cloud services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience setting technical direction for a platform and driving completion across multiple teams through influence and persuasion.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience includes supply-chain security, UEFI Secure Boot, dm-verity, SBOM generation, software composition analysis, CIS Benchmarks, STIG, SCAP, SELinux policy work, modern image-build tools, immutable or A/B-updated operating systems, configuration management, infrastructure as code, on-premises development infrastructure, observability, secure remote access, virtualization, and mentoring senior engineers or serving as a technical lead.
