Responsibilities
- Implement responsive CMS page models and structured content types using Drupal, including Twig, custom modules, and blocks, and/or Wagtail, including StreamField, Page models, and Django templates.
- Build website information architecture, taxonomies, reusable templates, publishing workflows, navigation, breadcrumbs, and URL transition pathways.
- Execute content and digital asset migration workflows, including extraction, cleaning, transformation, and ingestion of PDFs, scientific images, datasets, media files, and relational data.
- Implement 301 redirect mappings and routing between the legacy GeoInfo system and the new web environment.
- Lead technical testing covering template rendering, responsive interfaces, editorial workflows, access permissions, search indexing, accessibility, cross-browser behavior, and launch-critical functionality.
- Integrate third-party institutional systems, APIs, and enterprise databases, including HigherEd ERP systems such as Ellucian Banner.
- Track implementation deliverables, backlog stories, bugs, estimates, pull requests, and technical debt using Jira or comparable tools.
- Deliver a tested, secure, production-ready website populated with validated migrated content by the target launch deadlines.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of hands-on CMS development and technical implementation experience, including multiple production website builds, custom module or model configurations, and large-scale data migrations.
- Direct proficiency with Drupal and PHP, Composer, and Twig and/or Wagtail, Python, and Django.
- Deep understanding of structured content, reusable templates, atomic page components, custom fields, and multi-tier editorial workflows.
- Experience with content migration pipelines, database transformation scripts, and digital asset migrations for large static repositories.
- Working knowledge of web QA, functional and cross-browser testing, accessibility compliance, redirect rule engines, and production deployment procedures.
- Ability to collaborate across software engineering, UI/UX design, content strategy, project management, security, and executive stakeholder groups.
- Experience managing implementation sprints, tickets, pull requests, and bug backlogs with Jira or comparable project management tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, architectural decision records, and handoff guides.
- New Mexico or West Texas residency and willingness to travel to Socorro, New Mexico, preferred.
- Experience with web solutions for higher education, scientific research organizations, geological surveys, or public-sector agencies preferred.
