Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of backend services for Guidewire’s application platform.
- Build APIs, microservices, and distributed systems that improve developer experience and reliable product delivery.
- Apply coding agents, automation, and data-driven insights to accelerate development while maintaining quality and responsible AI practices.
- Engineer for scalability, availability, observability, performance, and security across the platform.
- Collaborate with product managers, infrastructure engineers, security partners, and cross-functional teams on secure platform operations.
- Contribute to cloud and data platform adoption, service reliability, security improvements, and new product initiatives.
- Resolve complex technical issues, improve engineering practices, and deliver measurable platform efficiency and customer value.
- Support and mentor junior engineers through feedback, knowledge sharing, and hands-on technical guidance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, including system design and development of platform services.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python, with the ability to work effectively in other languages.
- Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
- Experience using coding agents, automation tools, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
- Understanding of software quality, scalability, availability, observability, and application security practices.
- Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Ability to apply AI and data-driven insights to improve innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with production services in a public-cloud environment, platform engineering, developer tooling, continuous integration and delivery, service reliability, cloud-native application development, insurance technology, enterprise SaaS, data platforms, or responsible AI practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers or serving as a technical lead on cross-functional initiatives is preferred.
