Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Define and drive strategic direction for backend and full-stack engineering practices, architecture, and technical excellence.
- Lead development of scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems for government customers.
- Serve as a technical authority for system architecture, data design, engineering excellence, and infrastructure initiatives.
- Design service architectures, data pipelines, infrastructure patterns, APIs, shared libraries, and service frameworks.
- Deliver improvements to core services supporting customer intake, application screening, and information dissemination.
- Lead modernization and large-scale technical initiatives that improve system quality, performance, maintainability, and team velocity.
- Establish engineering practices for API design, data modeling, testing, observability, security, and code quality.
- Mentor and coach engineers and help establish backend engineering career development pathways.
- Influence technical decisions across teams and communicate architectural trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of related experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust 6C clearance.
- Demonstrated success leading and delivering multiple production-ready, scalable distributed systems with measurable business impact.
- Experience architecting and implementing high-throughput microservice architectures with strong reliability requirements.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, caching, data consistency, APIs, observability, cloud-native architectures, and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, migrations, data governance, and modernization from monoliths or legacy systems.
- Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java or Python.
- Knowledge of distributed systems principles, reliability patterns, performance optimization, capacity planning, cost optimization, and secure coding.
- Experience with unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing; CI/CD pipelines; security scanning; and deployment strategies.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, ECS, Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS, Azure, GCP, Kafka, SQS, and EventBridge.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, make organization-wide architectural decisions, communicate complex concepts clearly, and mentor engineers at all levels.
