Base Salary
$200k - $275k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set the team’s technical strategy over a year-long horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness.
- Own team operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
- Establish code review and design standards and advocate for quality through writing and technical talks.
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
- Build and maintain capacity models that translate traffic forecasts into resource requirements and recommended settings such as pod counts, HPA ranges, and infrastructure sizing changes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Experience supporting large-scale sales events such as Prime Day or Black Friday Cyber Monday.
- Experience tuning autoscaling, CPU and memory usage, and multithreading for compute workloads.
- Experience defining technical and execution plans for major features, system components, or deprecations.
- Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture in ambiguous environments.
- A demonstrated history of incorporating feedback and growing impact with engineering and cross-functional peers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
