Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction, architecture, and implementation for large-scale platform projects and subsystems.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical decision-making across multiple teams or a department.
- Design, develop, optimize, and operate scalable, high-performance distributed data-platform software at petabyte scale.
- Build and optimize ETL, data-integration, streaming, scale-out, serverless, and containerized data pipelines.
- Develop extensible file-processing pipelines, artifact-generation systems, observability models, and automated file-processor evaluation systems.
- Design and operate high-availability, multi-tenant, algorithmically intensive data engines and services.
- Identify system risks and problems, troubleshoot root causes, and implement durable solutions.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, executives, and other stakeholders on architectural and business needs.
- Maintain code quality through design reviews, code reviews, testing, optimization, and technical documentation.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant backend engineering experience with substantial focus on big-data platforms.
- 7+ years of professional experience with service-oriented architecture, Docker-based services, microservices, APIs, and data-model design or implementation.
- Experience developing, monitoring, and maintaining large-scale, high-availability software systems.
- Experience designing and developing software from a security perspective and leading significant software projects.
- Expertise designing, implementing, and operating high-availability, high-performance distributed data-processing systems with operational observability.
- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers for language-agnostic service-to-service communication.
- Experience with JVM-focused server-side technology stacks, particularly Kotlin and gRPC.
- Deep expertise with Elasticsearch, Cassandra, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience delivering, operating, and designing cloud-based data-platform software solutions.
- Experience with observability systems, feature or release toggles, multi-tenant systems, and algorithmically intensive data engines.
- Experience with Envoy or AWS App Mesh.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
- Preferred experience with Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, AWS, Azure, GCP, Java, Python, C#, Kafka, server management, and network configuration.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom without current or future sponsorship.
