Base Salary

$114k - $216k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Define long-term technical vision and strategy for computational systems supporting basic science and translational research.
  • Lead the design, evaluation, feasibility analysis, and implementation of scalable scientific computing applications and systems.
  • Guide architecture, software installation, configuration, testing, file management, data processing, security, and performance monitoring.
  • Evaluate emerging computational technologies and resources for application development and research computing.
  • Translate complex scientific requirements into sustainable, secure, scalable computational capabilities.
  • Provide project management guidance for delivery within timelines, budgets, and design specifications.
  • Engage with regulatory and institutional groups to protect patient data and support compliance.
  • Mentor engineering team members, provide training, and promote cross-training across technical areas.
  • Advise researchers and multidisciplinary stakeholders on computational tools, infrastructure, algorithms, and resources.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, information science, mathematics, or a related field is required; a PhD is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience developing, optimizing, or maintaining scientific or computational applications is required.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex projects and contributing impact within a technical specialty.
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines, leading projects, and guiding team members.
  • Recognized expertise in algorithms, pipelines, or systems development.
  • Preferred experience supporting research computing environments and bioinformatics, bioimage, or related life science pipelines.
  • Preferred experience with HPC schedulers including Slurm, LSF, and Kubernetes.
  • Expertise in parallel programming and high-performance computing using OpenMP, MPI, and Pthreads.
  • Strong skills with UNIX/Linux scripting languages, high-level programming languages, computational algorithms, HPC applications, data processing, scalability, and reliability.
  • Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders, influence through facts and logic, analyze complex issues, and address customer and organizational needs.
