Base Salary
$192k - $455k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build software extensions that retrieve, parse, transform, and load new data sources.
- Investigate unfamiliar source systems, define schemas and data models, and account for access patterns, partitioning, indexing, and performance.
- Deploy and operate data integration components across low-side and high-side environments in coordination with customer and Arlington engineering teams.
- Monitor pipeline health, data quality, throughput, and freshness using dashboards and alerts.
- Diagnose production failures, resolve incidents, perform root cause analysis, and contribute fixes, runbooks, and post-incident reviews.
- Participate in PagerDuty on-call rotations and communicate operational findings, customer feedback, and platform improvement opportunities.
- Maintain secure, auditable code and credential-handling practices suitable for classified environments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering with a substantial data infrastructure focus.
- Strong programming ability in Python or Go and the ability to write maintainable, testable, and debuggable code.
- Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, such as with Airflow, NiFi, AWS Glue, or equivalent custom development.
- Strong SQL and schema design skills, including partitioning and indexing decisions based on access patterns.
- Experience debugging production data systems, tracing failures, and performing root cause analysis under pressure.
- Experience in a forward-deployed, field engineering, or embedded customer-facing engineering role with independent decision-making.
- Ability to work full-time on-site at a government facility in Northern Virginia and travel to Arlington, Virginia, typically four days per month.
- Active TS/SCI security clearance with full-scope polygraph.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Trino, Presto, Spark, Athena, Kafka, NATS, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, air-gapped or classified environments, military or intelligence environments, Docker, and Docker Compose.
